Spectacular coup for junior welder

Last weekend, the "Jugend schweißt" (Youth welds) state competition took place in Flensburg. BUTTING was represented by talented apprentices at the starting line and emerged as one of the big winners: Hannes Mielmann was awarded the title of state champion in TIG welding and will present his welding skills at the national competition in Essen in September.

With their first places in the district competition in Hanover, organised by the German Welding Association, the BUTTING apprentices had qualified to take part in the state championship. In the TIG and MAG welding techniques and in manual arc welding and oxyacetylene welding, they then competed in Flensburg against the 23 district first place winners from Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. It was here that BUTTING employee and junior welder Hannes Mielmann scored a spectacular coup: he emerged as the state champion in TIG welding.

Only a week earlier, Hannes Mielmann had very successfully completed his training as a plant fitter, cutting the training period short by half a year. Industrial mechanic Philip Grabowski, who is in the second year of his apprenticeship, took second place in the manual arc welding category, only narrowly edged out by the winner.Carsten Kamke, who is in charge of commercial and technical training at BUTTING in Knesebeck, explains: "We are proud of our boys' top performance. These results are a reflection of our good training and the excellent work of the trainers at BUTTING."

The family business attaches great importance to the personal and professional development of its employees. "Talent alone is not enough – it must be recognised and nurtured. Such competitions motivate our apprentices and open up completely new perspectives for them. When Hannes Mielmann travels to the Ruhr region in autumn, the whole BUTTING family will be there with him in their hearts," says Kamke.
