Sosta certified successfully

BUTTING has been recertified at Sosta stainless pipes – its production site in Könnern. This involved an audit of compliance with the requirements of the quality, occupational safety and energy management standards.

Certainty of receiving the desired quality is a key factor in making a purchase decision. Certifications according to international standards provide customers with confirmation of such a qualification. BUTTING meets these requirements and has also had the management systems recertified at Sosta stainless pipes, its production site in Könnern.

In the course of the certification process, compliance with the requirements of quality management standards DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 as well as occupational safety management in accordance with DIN ISO 45001:2018 and energy management DIN EN 50001:2018 was audited. Particular attention was paid to the energy management system, as this year not only saw the recertification, but also the update to the 2018 version. After two days of intensive review, the two inspection audits and the upgrade to DIN EN ISO 50001:2018 were successfully completed. Mathias Michaelis, Head of Quality assurance at Sosta, reports: "In addition, the experts from Lloyd's Register were on site in the past months, followed by Bureau Veritas last month and just recently DNV. Our quality management system consistently satisfied them all."

"We need a lean and agile management system that works with high qualitative requirements and yet allows us to react quickly to what is happening in the market," says Henning Lütkemüller, authorised signatory of Sosta, explaining his objective. This process is currently still being implemented. The work will be fully completed upon submission of the new management manual for the scheduled API Q1 certification.

The factory certification for NORSOK M-630 according to MDS D42 (material grades UNS S31803/UNS S32205) and MDS D52 (material grades UNS S32750/UNS S32760) is also in the final stage. For the certification, pipes of the respective material grade were manufactured in different wall thicknesses and the QTRs (Qualification Test Records) created for this are currently being checked by the certification authority in Norway. "The totality of all certifications creates the basis of trust for our customers and forms the benchmark against which we in Könnern will measure our quality," says Mathias Michaelis.

The production of high-quality longitudinally welded stainless-steel pipes will remain our core business at this BUTTING production site as well. Here, pipes are produced from coil or sheet for the BUTTING warehouse or customer orders. As before, short delivery times are often the decisive factor for placing an order.
