The Gesellschaft für Korrosionsschutz e. V. (German Society for Corrosion Protection) welcomes the commitment of the BUTTING Akademie and the Fachhochschule Südwestfalen University of Applied Sciences, since the economic damage caused by corrosion is estimated at around 3 to 4 % of GDP (~EUR 100 billion). Dr. Iris Rommerskirchen of BUTTING explains the background for the commitment of the family business: "Quite apart from the general shortage of skilled workers, we were forced to discover that there is a shortfall of specialists in the field of corrosion protection and surface technology."
The condition for starting this course is an university degree that provides a professional qualification (Bachelor or Diploma) in engineering or scientific subjects, along with at least one year's professional experience. The course is studied in-service and part-time, and is constructed in self-study mode. The standard period of study is 4 semesters and consists of compulsory modules, elective modules, the Masters thesis and the viva examination. The taught classes take place on Saturdays.
Students are awarded a state-recognised higher education degree, the "Master of Engineering (M. Eng.)," which in principle entitles them to study for a doctorate. "The practically-oriented, detailed training at specialist level and the specialist proximity to BUTTING offer students the best conditions for their professional future", emphasises Professor Dr. Ralf Feser from the Fachhochschule Südwestfalen University of Applied Sciences. The curriculum offering of the BUTTING Akademie is upgraded by the course, which assists HR Development in promoting talent and gains the specialist's loyalty to the company on a long-term basis.
