Today, no gas or oil pipeline, no launch of a carrier rocket, no chemical plant and no operation of a power plant is conceivable without constant control by means of non-destructive testing. Every safety-related part is tested. BUTTING also tests its products using non-destructive testing techniques and is aware of their importance. It is therefore understandable that we have been a member of the German Society for Non-Destructive Testing (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zerstörungsfreie Prüfung e.V. – DGZfP) for 40 years now. Recently, BUTTING was honoured for its long-standing membership.
The DGZfP is a nationally and internationally recognised technical-scientific association with more than 1,600 members. One of the most important tasks of the DGZfP is to make everyone aware of the importance of non-destructive testing. Because by conducting such tests, manufacturers make a very significant contribution to preventing accidents and disasters in the everyday life of everyone of us. The objective of the association also includes research, development, application and dissemination of non-destructive testing methods as well as the training of testing personnel.
For four decades now, BUTTING has had its testing personnel trained and qualified by the lecturers of the DGZfP in a wide variety of procedures, such as eddy-current testing (ET), leak testing (LT), magnetic particle testing (MT), penetration testing (PT), radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT) and visual testing (VT).
Jörg Müller, Team Leader and Senior Expert Non Destructive Testing at BUTTING, and Norbert Weidl, Supervisor Quality control and NDT at BUTTING, are enthusiastic about the work of the DGZfP: "We regularly receive information on innovative testing techniques in specialist presentations. In addition, we work together with experts from all over Europe in the working groups and technical seminars." Jörg Müller, for example, represents the interests of BUTTING on the technical committee for radiographic testing. Norbert Weidl is on the technical committee for eddy-current testing and chairs the Lower Saxony working group.
In order to actively shape the training of testing personnel in the field of non-destructive testing, Uwe Gromm, QA Manager and Supervisor NDT at BUTTING, is involved as Deputy Chairman in the technical committee for optical methods and was also appointed to the Advisory Board of the DGZfP.
He sees numerous advantages for BUTTING and its customers: "We can represent the interests of our industry at the DGZfP. In addition, we are expanding our network through these activities. As a result, we will continue to work together to advance the technical development of testing techniques in the coming decades in order to jointly increase the safety of our products –
in the interest of our customers and end users."
