Subsea 7 is one of the world's leading contractors in seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services to the offshore industry. They provide technical solutions to enable the delivery of complex projects in all water depths and challenging environments. For many years, Subsea 7 has been working closely with BUTTING products for complex and sensitive applications in the oil and gas industry.
A milestone in this longstanding partnership was a major project in Brazil where BuBi® pipes (BUTTING-bimetal-pipes) were used as riser pipes for the first time anywhere in the world. For this order BUTTING supplied a total of 84 km of metallurgicallyclad pipes which are being laid off the Brazilian coast. The installation phase of the Guará project already began, by way of reeling, in January 2014.
The new contract covers, in commercial and technical terms, the project-related delivery of mechanically lined and metallurgically clad pipes with different material combinations. It enables Subsea 7 to benefit from the wide range of materials available at BUTTING, both for the inner and the outer pipe. Furthermore, the agreement provides for the delivery of CRA pipes made from the materials duplex and superduplex.
The conclusion of the agreement came about not only in order to secure the delivery of BUTTING pipes. It is also designed to strengthen the relationship between the parties, increase their joint competitive edge and optimise the procurement process.
The agreement has a global scope and will be valid for the next three years, with the option of extending it for a further two years. Brigitte Blechinger, Senior Oil and Gas Sales Manager at BUTTING, explains: "Subsea 7 and BUTTING have been pooling their expert skills for decades. By signing this framework agreement we are consolidating our partnership and taking another step together towards a successful future."
