In June 2020, BUTTING received an order from our customer, offshore service provider Subsea 7, to produce GluBi® pipes measuring OD 323.9 x (15.9 + 3.0) mm for the Hod B project. By the start of 2021, BUTTING had produced more than 12 kilometres of GluBi® pipes in 12-metre manufacturing lengths and 32 pieces in 3-metre fixed lengths, which are also installed in the pipeline. The order also included GluBi® pipes in 2- and 0.7-metre lengths used for test purposes. Shorty after the contract was awarded, 80 pup pieces were also delivered, on which Subsea 7 carried out welding certifications.
Thomas Schüller, Managing Director of BUTTING in Knesebeck, is happy with the positive outcome: "I'm delighted that the confidence we had when we invested in this innovative product has truly paid off and it has been successfully installed. We are looking forward to further GluBi® projects."
As the world's leading processor of clad materials, BUTTING offers its customers product solutions that promote sustainable success. In recent years, for example, the family business has developed the GluBi® pipe for the oil and gas industry. Unlike the BuBi® pipe, these mechanically clad pipes can be laid offshore using the reel-lay method without using inner pressure or increasing the wall thickness of the corrosion-resistant liner. This minimises the laying and material costs for the customer.
It is based on a mechanically clad BuBi® pipe that features an additional special adhesive between the carbon-manganese steel and the corrosion-resistant liner. GluBi® pipes can be produced in sizes ranging from OD 168.3 mm (6") to OD 457.2 mm (18"). Since the end of 2019, GluBi® has been certified in accordance with DNVGL-RP-A203.
