BUTTING has developed a glued mechanically lined pipe. This can be laid by the reel-lay method, without using inner pressure or increasing the wall thickness of the corrosion-resistant liner. The GluBi® pipe. The principle behind the pipe sets a trend: the basis is a mechanically lined BuBi® pipe, which features an additional special adhesive between the carbon-manganese steel and the corrosion resistant liner. The GluBi® pipe is suitable for all laying methods, but in economic terms particularly for the reel-lay and J-lay method.
Thomas Schüller, Managing Director BUTTING in Knesebeck, is thrilled with the performance of the in-house development team: "We knew that the laying method is an increasingly important factor in the selection of clad pipes. At the moment, reel-laying is the most cost-effective method. Against this background, we have taken the wishes of our customers into account and developed a product that both reduces installation costs and offers potential for saving material costs." In a complex process, the certification of the GluBi® pipe has now been successfully completed together with DNV GL, for the time being without coating under DNVGL-RP-A203. He adds with obvious pride: "We faced and mastered the challenges of this very demanding certification process. Our next milestone will be to extend the certification for the GluBi® pipe with subsequent coating. I am convinced: with the excellent team, we will implement this promptly too."
